I really enjoyed this! This also got me thinking about the possibility of urban agglomeration effects possibly playing a role. IE Higher housing supply increasing city population leads to more than proportional productivity gains which in turn could result in higher wages and more labor demand driving rents back up.

The problem is trying to engage with people who dismiss all economics that doesn't agree with their pre-held positions as bunk, and you need something simple to get through to them. I see a lot of leftists try to say greedy landlords will only ever raise prices. That should already be obviously false, but sometimes you need specific examples to try to make the point
