I agree, actually. From the EA point of view you want people with the most money to give.
The problem is that very rich people are good at convincing people to give them money--that's how they get very rich. And when they want to spend it via philanthropy, they usually do so in ways that are calculated to maximize their social prestige and opinion.
It's going to take a while before EA is 'sexy' again, thanks to SBF. But a lot of Silicon Valley guys like the idea because it's about math and optimization. So I'd start there.
